The Masterson Method is a gentle, hands-on form of equine bodywork designed to help horses release tension and improve mobility. It focuses on reading the horse's subtle responses to touch, such as blinking or licking, to identify areas of discomfort. By working with the horse’s nervous system, this method helps release deep-seated tension in key areas like the neck, shoulders, back, and pelvis, improving overall performance and well-being.
I recently completed a two-day Masterson Method workshop, gaining 14 hours of hands-on experience. This workshop allowed me to learn and practice these techniques in depth. I enjoyed connecting with horses and seeing firsthand how these techniques can benefit their comfort and relaxation. I’ve already begun using what I learned on horses that I trim, and it’s been rewarding to see their positive responses. Later this year, I plan to attend the five-day Masterson Method workshop to further develop my skills and understanding.
The Masterson Method has greatly improved my ability to assess and care for horses as a trimmer. By learning to identify and release tension in a horse’s body, I am more attuned to areas of discomfort or restriction that might affect how they stand, move, and bear weight. Since horses often compensate for tension in certain muscles or joints, this can lead to uneven hoof wear or posture issues. With the Masterson techniques, I can address these underlying physical challenges more effectively, ensuring that my trimming work is better aligned with the horse's overall comfort and mobility.
When a horse is more relaxed and balanced through bodywork, they are more likely to stand comfortably during trims, making the experience smoother and less stressful for both the horse and myself. Incorporating these bodywork techniques into my practice allows me to support your horse's well-being holistically, improving not just their feet but their overall movement and posture as well. This results in healthier hooves and a more comfortable horse. This approach has truly enriched my work with horses, and I look forward to continuing my journey in equine bodywork.
